Ask the question

Essa Barshim and Gianmarco Tamberi made history at the Olympics by sharing a gold medal. In Olympic athletics, this last happened a century ago.

Being told that they have to do a "jump-off", Barshim asked the question: "Can we have two golds?"

This question goes against every expectation. The nature of the games is that winners are declared after training their whole lives.

In a split second, Barshim went against that nature and asked the question that opened up the win-win. The judge answered "it is possible".

When next I have the urge to ask a question that goes against the nature of the game: I will remember Barshim, and ask it.
