Could you just

A particularly manipulative phrase after half-stating a problem is: "Could you just..." — followed by a meaningful pause.

It strongly activates the people-pleasing urge. The recipient of the unformed request typically fills the silence and their inner anxiety by jumping to "... yes".

That leaves the recipient with an unbounded yes, to an undefined request, to a problem that is unclear.

It leaves them with not-just, but a whole lot more.
