Fit to cover the space
Wednesdays were the social night at the squash club. Four hours of non-stop play.
A regular ran a few kilometres to the club, and then ran at top speed for every shot. The rest of us managed our energy — some shots are not worth chasing down after a while.
Playing him was hard work. He refused to hand over any point and kept going beyond reasonable limits.
After the fours hours he would run home.
His fitness granted him more space. More of the court over those hours were available to him.
Being fit in the spaces we want to cover and explore is a choice, and it is a choice under our control.
