Rote learning
Rote learning is a step we now skip because we are smart and pick things up quickly, and who has time for that?
Meaningful learning includes creating connections and extracting the context in play. Turns out this is much easier if some of the rote, boring stuff is confidently in your head.
We can test how much we really picked up: By answering our own questions, writing them down, and periodically checking if we still know that answer.
It is a humbling experience.
