What even

Some phrases fit in all contexts: "So it has come to this" is the prime example.

Other phrases question all contexts and do not fit. Because sometimes the context needs to be challenged and changed.

My current favourite: "What are we even doing here?".

The emphasis on the "even" is crucial in the delivery.
