First do nothing

First, do nothing.

We have evolved fight or flight. Way back when, every moment required an immediate action and response. Then, not having a clear and direct response, would have let to injury or death.

Now we are still left with the cocktail of stress hormones, flooding our senses and our sense-making.

Rarely now, do we risk actual injury or death.

By doing nothing, I try to be with the immense wave of what-just-happened. I try to convince myself that there is more than just this moment. I try to convince myself that I am safe, and that there are many things I could do - after I have done nothing.

Sometimes, I succeed.
